  An Introduction to the International Translation Center of the College of Humanities, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taiwan, Republic of China

(This version of the introduction was completed in July 8, 2008.)

  1. The Translation Center (hereafter referred to as the Center) of the College of Humanities, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) is established to promote academic cooperative relationship with top-level translation centers throughout the world to enhance teaching, research, and practice of translation.

  2. The missions of the Translation Center are as follows:
    • To enhance translation teaching and research and to promote the integration of interpretation related courses..
    • To implement translation related research plans.
    • To publish translated works and related research results.
    • To take charge of the other translation related tasks.

  3. The Center is headed by the director (a full-time associate professor or full professor) who is nominated by the Dean of the College of Humanities upon the approval of the College Meeting. The term of the director is two years with a maximum of two terms or four years. The Center may hire assistants and part-time staff members and establish task forces there is a need.

  4. The Center has a planning committee of 5-7 members. They are nominated by the Dean of the College of Humanities upon the approval of the College Meeting. The term of the planning committee members is two years. The Center must hold at least one planning committee meeting each semester and obtain the signature of at least three members to hold an emergency meeting. The Planning Committee has the following responsibilities:
    • Approving the Center's annual plans.
    • Deciding the tasks to be completed by the Center.
    • Making other important decisions.

    The funds of the Center are derived from the following sources:
    • Funds derived from plan implementations.
    • Funds provided by NTUST and other institutions.
    • Funds provided by the College of Humanities.
    • Revenues derived from the other sources.

  5. The Director of the Center must propose an annual plan and obtain the approval of the planning committee for the plan to become effective. The plan must include the following items:
    • Annual translation research plan (including academic and translation plans)
    • Academic activities (including lectures, workshops, seminars, and publications).
    • Maintaining the Center’s website.
    • Gathering and analyzing information related to translation teaching and research.
    • Other tasks related to teaching and research in translation.
